Bridging the Communications Gap.

Parent coordination

Sometimes conflict continues even after court decisions are made and custody plans are in place. In situations where parents struggle to communicate and coordinate, a parent coordinator can help bridge the gap and open the lines of communication. We can help parents resolve disputes and coordinate their efforts without the headaches.

The Role of a Parent Coordinator

Parent coordinators help reduce misunderstanding, promote collaboration, and create compromise. Coordinators, however, aren’t authorized to change or modify existing parenting plans.

When the Court May Appoint a Parent Coordinator

When necessary, New Jersey courts can appoint a parent coordinator to make day-to-day issues between parents easier to navigate. Typically, the court appoints a coordinator for cases involving minor children where parenting plans are already in place.

Possible Reasons for court appointment

  • Lingering conflict exists between parents.

  • There is a history of domestic violence, anger, or abuse

  • Parents have difficulty communicating and cooperating

  • The child has special needs

  • Excess litigation involving custody and parenting issues continues.
